Sedbury and the Wye

19th Feb 2019

We followed Offa's Dyke Path out of Sedbury, then took the rverside Lancaut Nature Reserve.

We picked up the Offa's Dyke path again, and viewed the river from above,

and the amazingly large quarries with sheer vertical rocky faces.

After that we walked some really attractive village and rural paths,

and returned via Tidenham, and the National Diving Centre, towards Sedbury.

At the start of the walk we had a distant view of the old Severn Princess car ferry.

The picture below shows clearly one of the 3 car ferries that operated between Beachley and Aust,
the Severn King, Queen and Princess, until 1966 when the first Severn Bridge took over.
It always seemed precarious driving on, but the skill in packing the cars in tight was amazing,
and involved driving onto the turntable that you can see in the image,
in the centre of the ferry, which was pulled around by ropes to position the cars.
The Severn Princess has been rescued, and is now being kept at Chepstow,
and will soon be restored and will be on display for the public to view
