Purton

10th Jan 2017

We had reasonable weather, and another bonus, the tide ws out, which gave us very different views from previous walks.

It is exremely interesting to anyone not familiar with this part of the Severn, and we all enjoyed it.

At the end we had a personal account of the beaching of the boats,

from a 90 year-old, who was personally involved in the beaching of the Britannia and the Monarch,

and who also witnessed the gathering of every sort of boat imaginable at Sharpness,

before they disappeared overnight, to take part in the Normandy landings in the war.
