Resolven

Sarn Helen and Aberpergwm

10th Sept 2016

Sarn Helen is something I have been interested in for a very long time,

and I have never before walked this section,

most likely because it is known that it is difficult to manage without getting wet feet.

It has obviously been used continuously by all forms of traffic over the centuries since the Romans built it.

The only people we saw were 2 on motor bikes, and although there were many sections flooded,

other parts were really interesting and impressive still showing parts of the original cobbled surface.

The forestry spoilt what must have been impressive views in parts,

but there were plenty of open sections above Seven Sisters and Aberpergwm with exellent walking.

We walked a circular route starting at Resolven, ascending on St Illtyds Way.

along Sarn Helen, and then some interesting paths across re-landscaped mining areas,

and returning along part of the Neath Canal. It was very interesting and enjoyable.
