Paviland
1st Sept 2015
Our walk this week happened to coincide with an exceptionally low tide,
so it was possible to visit Paviland Cave, where a 33,000 years old skeleton was found, dyed in red ochre.
Thought to be a female it was named the Red Lady of Paviland, but afterwards found to be male.
It is one of the oldest ceremonial burials discovered anywhere in Western Europe.
Our walk covered one of the most striking areas in Gower between Port Eynon and Mewslade,
with magnificent limestone cliffs, hill forts and steep-sided valleys.
