Clydach Gorge

This was a special trip to enjoy the gorge before construction work takes place on the A465,

section between Brynmawr and Abergavenny, which is scheduled to start in early January.

It is uncertain what the long-term effects of this work will cause.

The report indicates that there will be little actual land-take in the gorge,

but it remains to be seen whether the beauty and serenity will be restored after the works,

or whether the additional road constructed will have long-lasting effects.

We crossed Cwm Llanwenarth and then went around the head of the valley towards Gilwern Hill.

We followed the line of quarries towards Clydach, before entering the woodlands and Clydach Gorge.
