The wreck is the 'City of Bristol', a paddle steamer which travelled between Bristol and Ireland, and was wrecked in 1840. There were only 2 survivors of 22 seamen and 7 passengers. She was carrying 15 bullocks, plus 280 pigs in pens on deck. 3 of the bullocks and 71 pigs managed to swim to shore. It can only be seen at low water of spring tides. |
