Ogmore

19th April 2005

A day of contrasts,

walking both sides of the estuary,

starting from Ogmore to Dunraven,

where we had a private slide show of the area,

to Wych Point where we overlooked the coast,

back inland, and across Ogmore Common,

across the stepping stones at Ogmore Castle,

and a circuit on the Merthyr Mawr side

with dunes, beach and the estuary .

The large slab like rocks are different from the rocks of the beach and the cliffs and are thought to have been washed up by the sea in the 16th century. They were referred to recently in a television program as being a possible example of evidence of a tsunami in the Bristol Channel, which caused massive flooding, and the abandoning of villages and property along the coast of South Wales and Somerset.
